Robot vacuums are life! I am seriously obsessed with them. We have 4 that run on the regular- almost daily. It’s so nice to leave in the morning and come home to a freshly vacuumed house. Running these so often also means that things stay picked up around the house. The kids know that if toys are left out, the vacuums will eat them. So, while I now don’t know how I ever lived without these, the beginning of the robot life was not a good one.
Let me just take you back… to the winter of 2014. My husband decided that getting me a robot vacuum was the best Christmas present ever. He was so excited about this gift that he couldn’t wait to give it to me, so I actually opened this present early December that year. I opened and thought, ‘Oh, this is cool.’ But then he continued with his explanation as to why he thought this was the best gift ever. He said something to the effect of ‘because I won’t have as much time to clean once the baby comes.’ Maybe it was pregnancy hormones, but that pretty much ruined it for me. I was a little resentful of that vacuum.
But it didn’t take long after the baby arrived to realize that even if we had time, we wanted to spend our time differently… and not cleaning. Life somehow got busier than I expected it to feel. It was the change in sleep, the hormones, working off someone else’s schedule, new things to do, and new routines to figure out. This little vacuum somehow lifted a weight off of me that I didn’t even know I had. I felt productive without having to do more than push a button and take comfort in seeing the freshly made lines in the carpet. I also loved knowing the floors were fresh when he was playing and crawling around.
Do they get in every corner of the room? No. Do they sometimes get stuck? Yes, but no problem. I’ll run them again tomorrow and it’ll get whatever it didn’t cover today. Are all brands pretty much the same? No, but the online reviews will steer you to the good ones. If perfection in vacuuming is your thing, the robot might not be for you. But for regular maintenance, for great vacuuming 98% of the time, to get the extra crumbs so you don’t have to, I’m telling you, these little vacuums are solid! Who else is with me on this?!
