Well, here it is… the mirror that gets decorated for holidays and special events. I like to celebrate these things with a little home decorating. The key for me is ‘a little.’ And not because I don’t love the homes that are ‘all in’ with decorating. I do love them. You can walk into someone’s home and feel the transformation and feel the excitement of that holiday. It can almost be magical!
But for me, I go simple. I like having something that is my ‘go to’. Something that is easy to put up and take down and something that I can do, without having to think too much about it. I like having something that makes the holiday special but nothing so much that it adds to the stress of the holiday. I like simple, low maintenance, and easy to store! This mirror is in our entry way and at the bottom of our stairs. It’s one of the first things people see when they enter our home. And it’s the first thing we see when we come down the stairs. It’s kind of front and center so we all can enjoy it.
I also have a wooden dough bowl that sits in the middle of our dining room table. I change out the contents in it each season or holiday as well. This is just enough to make the dining room a little festive and coordinates with the entry way. These are the two areas that have regular holiday décor. Depending on the holiday, I do a bit more. But these are the 2 areas I can always quickly and easily splash a little love.
Here's how a couple other holidays have looked:
For fall, I hung the white wooden pumpkins and for the couple weeks before Halloween, I added the Happy Halloween banner. My littles picked out the pumpkin runner, which was a fun addition for the wooden dough bowl too. After Halloween, I left the wooden pumpkins on the mirror, removed the pumpkin runner and put a pinecone mix in the bowl.
For Christmas, I hang this metal sign. The wooden bowl is filled with large jingle bells. And of course this is a holiday that has more decorating, but my 2 staple spots are still done as well.
I would love to hear if you have any staple spots in your home? Send them my way!
